An identification with Christ in feeling abandoned by God.
Is this time of dying and loss just one of life's seasons? One pathway among many leading to the presence of God?
"There are many paths to God. The Via Negativa is that of darkness, of absence; the Via Creativa that of newness and creativity; the Via Positiva divinity in creation; the Via Transformativa the path of struggle and celebration." - Creation Spirituality by Matthew Fox.

Wednesday 19 March 2008, 7:00-8:30pm, in the Gallery Space.
Facilitated by Sandra Atkins.
Notes supplied by artist afterwards
The process I went through in preparing the art involved thinking about the seasons of life, with particular attention to the season of dying, as per Christ's words "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?". I used Matthew Fox's notes on creation spirituality [Original Blessing: A Primer in Creation Spirituality, 1983] and borrowed his phrases via negativa, via creativa, via positiva and via transformativa as the paths we take on our spiritual journey through winter, spring, summer and autumn. By accepting the season of dying as only part of a continuing cycle, I have hope that spring will eventually dawn!
